The TJC welcomes guest speaker Rabbi Ben Morrow from Temple Beth Shalom in Santa Fe. Rabbi Ben gave a series of five lectures in 2008 at Temple Beth Shalom entitled “The Importance of Women in the Torah.” We are pleased to have him speak on the same subject in a condensed form on January 25, 2009 at the Taos Jewish Center. Ben Morrow received his Doctorate of Divinity from Chazeldon University in Israel in 1953. He then taught at the University of Pittsburg for 30 years. As a member of the armed forces during WWII he was awarded a Purple Heart. He was the Rabbi for Temple Beth Shalom in Santa Fe for 16 years and is currently Rabbi emeritus there. He says that his greatest ego booster was speaking before 100,000 Jews in Israel on Independence Day in 2008. If you think that women are not important in the Torah you are about to find out the true story. Please join us for an informative and eye opening lecture and discussion. The suggested donation for “The Importance of Women in the Torah” is $10 ($7 members). No one will be turned away for lack of funds. “The Importance of Women in the Torah” is the third brunch in the Desert Dialogue Series, a series of brunches, Kabbalat Shabbats, and outdoor activities for the purpose of building Jewish community and leadership in Taos. The Desert Dialogues series is supported by a grant from the Jewish Federation of New Mexico.
